Heaven Shall Burn „Wanderer” [CD 2016]

The interesting thing with this new Heaven Shall Burn release. I must admit that I have never avoided the albums of my western neighbours, and i have a big sentiment according to them. But now, I don`t know why, because of unknown reasons, i thought that this time it will be boring album. For this reason, some time has gone, before I turned on the new album. Its content can be seen, however, in two ways – disappointing can be lack of progress here, but satisfying the saved the level of the previous albums at the same time.

Listening to „Wanderer” I can`t sometimes resist the impression that the band decided to play their own covers – a lot of patents here are confusingly similar according to the fragments from the earlier albums. Compare the design of riffs „Bring The War Home” with „Profane Believers” or „Forlorn Skies”. Besides that, culmination of the first riff in „Passage Of The Crane”, sounds like the end of the chorus from „Godiva”, and this track in general sounds a bit like „Hunters Will Be Hunted” with a touch of old As I Lay Dying).

Throughout the time duration of this CD we can hear so quite specific echoes of previous releases. Paradoxically, however, I do not feel because of that neither embarrassed, nor some special forewarned. Germans are playing through the long period in the same way enough to set the optimal scheme for their music. It is logical, consistent continuation of the previously explored areas of genre. As you can see, not yet fully penetrated, because with some degree of skill and intuition, this luckless metalcore genre can be listenable yet.

It’s hard not to notice that HSB in their melodies plays quite often the similarly resonating configurations of sounds. The most interesting is the fact that it does not feel that this is due to the exhaustion of formula, lack of ideas or any recourse. Although specific duplication of this album, its still good, though its reception will depend on the level of your tolerance to the melodies. Heaven Shall Burn performs quite archaic at this point form of metalcore, even from before the period when it was invaded by juvenile hairdressers with clean vocals and gaudy shirts. Moreover, romancing with the death metal. One of the distinguishing marks of Heaven Shall Burn are significantly dripping with pathos in the swedish-style melodies and lower parts. Occasionally here happens bolder guitar parts here too („Corium”). But you can not forget, however, that the foundation of this band are heavy parts, which convinces us for example „Prey To God” with the guest vocal featuring of Corpsegrinder from Cannibal Corpse.

Interesting is also the tendency of this band to play not only its, but also others cover songs. Earlier it was the Edge Of Sanity and Running Wild and more, now it’s time to „Agent Orange” of Sodom, as well as pointing out a quieter side of the band – My Dying Bride`sThe Cry of Mankind” featuring a guy from Sólstafir.

And while they are on the „Wanderer” fragments, which can not to persuade me (eg. containing inadequate in relation to each other transitions of „Extermination Order” or definitely too sweet „A River Of Crimson”) and the album is neither revolutionary, in no way very sophisticated, but curiously arranged and holding a very equal level. We cannot say about the discount of condition, especially in the context of a dying genre, in which HSB seems to be one of the most sensible current proposals of the bands that have not reached the djent trends.
